Real Madrid failed to take advantage of Barcelona’s surprise 1-1 home draw with Villarreal last weekend when they themselves were held to a 0-0 draw away to Ossasuna a day later. When Barcelona surprisingly drew at home to Villarreal last Saturday, supporters of Real Madrid must have been rubbing their hands in glee at the thought of their team taking over the leadership of La Liga the following day with a win against Ossasuna. Unfortunately for them though, Ossasuna didn’t read the script and managed to hold Real to a 0-0 draw, robbing the Galactico’s of their chance to get to the top of the league.
As things currently stand, Barcelona remain on top of La Liga with 40 points, while Real Madrid follow on closely behind with 38 points, There is then a further six point gap to third placed Valencia. Real’s opponents on Sunday Mallorca follow behind in fourth spot on thirty points.
Mallorca are having a great season so far and fourth spot in the league is a huge improvement on other season’s. They do, though, have their home form to thank for their accumulation of points as they have won all eight home games, while away they haven’t been as dominating. In their eight away games they have only won once, while drawing three and losing the other for. Last weekend they beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 at home.
