Chelsea travel to St. Andrews on Boxing Day for a clash with Alex McLeish’s Birmingham City side – a team unbeaten in their last nine Premier League outings. Birmingham travelled to Goodison Park to play Everton last time out on the back of five straight Premier League wins. They couldn’t make it six though as they were held to a 1-1 draw. Despite this though, the Blues are still unbeaten in their last nine league games and have slowly climbed up to seventh in the league table with 28 points to their name.

Despite the point at Goodison last Saturday, Birmingham didn’t play too well and were quite lucky to escape without a defeat. Nevertheless, fortuitous or not, the fact remains that Birmingham are unbeaten for over two months in the league and are a force to be reckoned with; Chelsea will not find it easy going come Boxing Day.

A Chelsea team that travels to Birmingham on the back of a 1-1 draw at West Ham last time out. The result at the home of the Hammers mean that Chelsea have now won just one of their last four league games and if it wasn’t for the fact that second placed Manchester United are slipping up themselves would be back with the chasing pack.

Carlo Ancellotti will want to arrest this alarming, for Chelsea supporters, slump, especially with the African Nations Cup coming up in January with Chelsea due to lose half-a-dozen influential players to the tournament. A trip to an in-form Birmingham is not the game they wanted right now.
