Manchester United, prior to their weekend engagement at Hull, have only won once in their last three Premier League games. In fact, their last outing was to Craven Cottage in London where they were summarily despatched by Roy Hodgson’s Fulham side 3-0. Sir Alex Ferguson cited his defensive injury woes for the heavy defeat, but the fact of the matter is that United have not been playing well at all for the last couple of months, despite winning a lot of their games. People will say, though, that the mark of champions is to win games when you aren’t playing well and the rest will take care of themselves. Time will tell.
Wigan Athletic travels to Old Trafford on Wednesday sitting only a couple of points above the relegation zone. Of course, results at the weekend may change this scenario somewhat, but that doesn’t change the fact that Wigan have not been performing over the long term. They haven’t won in three, and have only won once in seven league outings.
