Burnley entertain Bolton Wanderers on Boxing Day in a North West derby for the English Premier League. Both sides have been generally struggling for form of late, although Bolton did manage to win at the weekend. Burnley, after such a great start to life in the Premier League, has now gone seven league games without a win. In fact they have only won once in their last ten league outings and this is definitely not the form that manager Owen Coyle wanted to take into the festive period. On Saturday they travelled to Molineaux to face Wolves and lost the game by 2-0. A goal in each half was enough to seal the Clarets fate and they have now dropped to fourteenth in the league table with nineteen points to their name. Worryingly for them though, this is only three points above the relegation zone.
The game against Bolton at Turf Moor on Saturday then, takes on added significance because Bolton are the team in that last relegation spot at the moment and a defeat for Burnley could see them slide ever closer to this zone.
Bolton come into the game against Burnley on the back of a 3-1 home win against West Ham, but that fixture was last weekend. For this weekend's fixture they were due to play Wigan away on Monday evening, but the result of that game is as yet unknown at the time of writing this article. Presently Bolton are eighteenth in the league table with sixteen points to their name.
