West Ham are currently sitting just one point ahead of the relegation zone in seventeenth position. They have eighteen points to their name so far and it’s true to say the team are not enjoying the best of times. Zola has a tough battle to keep his team’s fans onside in the New Year and will know that a potentially good cup run can go a long way to appeasing the long suffering West Ham faithful.
On Monday afternoon the side made the short trip to North London to face Harry Redknapp’s high flying Tottenham side at White Hart Lane and ended up losing the game by two goals to nil. Although not unexpected, the result was a blow in the team’s attempts of breaking away from the relegation zone.
For their part, Arsenal go into the game at Upton Park in fine fettle with a string of great recent results putting them back in contention for this season’s Premier League title. Last time out they beat high flying Aston Villa quite comprehensively at the Emirates by three goals to nil, cementing the fact that they do appear to be genuine contenders for this season’s league title.
