Plymouth are currently having a terrible season in the Championship. They sit in second last position (23rd) and have eighteen points from 22 games played. Despite their dire position though, the Pilgrims travelled to high flying Cardiff City on Boxing Day and managed to come away with a priceless win – a win which actually took them off the bottom of the league.
Plymouth’s goal at Cardiff came as late as the 84th minute and it could prove to be one of the most vital goals in the team’s whole season. At home they have played ten games in the Championship and they have only won two of these. They managed to draw a further two games but lost the other six. They are the league’s lowest home scorers with just eight goals scored.
For their part, Newcastle are flying high at the top of the league following last season’s relegation from the Premier League. After 23 games, they are a full eight points clear of second placed West Brom and have fifty points to their name already. They have won fifteen times from their 23 games, drawing five and only losing three times so far all season.
