Milan are eight points behind Inter in the league table, but they do have a game in hand. The Rossoneri’s Match Day 17 game against Fiorentina, originally supposed to be their last of 2009, was cancelled due to bad weather.
Milan defender Gianluca Zambrotta has warned his team mates not to underestimate Genoa after seeing the fate that befell his side against Palermo. Milan midfielders Mathieu Flamini and Clarence Seedorf are one booking away from a ban. Should they get into the wrong books of the referee, both will miss the Rossoneri’s crucial game against Juventus on Sunday.
Genoa’s game against Bari was also postponed because of heavy snowfall in Liguria. The Rossoblu were last seen in action in the Europa League against Valencia. They lost 1-2 to Los Che in that game.
Valencia took the lead through Bruno on the stroke of half time when the defender headed in Joaquin’s free kick. Former Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo brought Genoa back on level terms when he latched on to Ivan Juric’s headed pass and steered the ball past Valencia keeper Miguel Moya. David Villa missed a penalty late in the game but the striker made up for it in injury time when he intercepted Alessio Scarpi’s goal kick and slotted the ball into an empty net.
