Tranmere Rovers are not having the best of seasons in League One so far this year. They are currently 22nd out of 24 teams in the league standings and have just 21 points to their name. In their last league encounter which took place on Monday, Rovers entertained Carlisle at Prenton Park but could only manage a 0-0 draw. Their home form is not so bad for a team so low in the table. From twelve games played they have won five, drawn two and lost a further five of the encounters.
For their part, Mick McCarthy’s Wolves side have been flirting with relegation all season. Currently they occupy sixteenth position in the league table with nineteen points to their name. There are just two points separating Wigan Athletic who are in fifteenth from Hull City who are in nineteenth (second last) position. Portsmouth hold up the rear three points adrift of Hull.
On Monday Wolves hosted a rampant Manchester City at Molineaux and were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Roberto Mancini’s team. Their defeat meant that they remain in the bottom echelons of the Premier League and means the coming months are going to be very tough for both Mick McCarthy and his team.
